Dark Elves Nab Blood Bowl!

(from the Midnight Sun - CPI):

This was the game everyone was waiting for.Well not everyone precisely, there was still
some speculation that the 'Tusker's didn't deserve their rating, that the BBCS (Blood Bowl
Computing Sorcerers) had been unduly weighted by the College of Dark Magic (who can
forget that the Stampede completely missed the Dungeon Bowl Sudden Death Playoff
system as they were given bad directions by a huge dog faced daemon wielding a flaming
whip). In any event, a throng estimated at more than 150,000 overflowed the arena in
anticipation for the King of Bowls and the presentation of the prestigious Bloodwiser Trophy.

Apocalypse Drow won the toss and swept the ball student body right. Chaos threw up a
desperate picket line but was easily out-flanked and the Darkelves went up one zip.The
Tuskers had to fight thru an AD Perfect Defense which funneled their drive into the
center of the field. Tuern whipped around the end of the line and levelled the ball carrier. A
tide of Darkelves washed over the ball and lo! Duke Malefionne was on his way for another
score. He.. could.. go.. all.. the..... suddenly the ball Burst with a loud pop! and the
Drow were forced to kick once again. League officials are looking into their equipment
suppliers for next season, this was the 5th reported instance of ball related failures this
year.

Chaos took the re-kick and planned to cage it up on the left. Unfortunately the ballcarrier
tripped leaving the pigskin on the carpet once again. Enola grabbed the ball, survived a
counter blitz, and handed off to a streaking Lord Blackthorne, who ran it in for his second
score of the half.

Due to several first half turnovers, the Khorne Tuskers found themselves down 0-2 after the
break. Not to be deterred, they punched their third drive right up the gut. It was looking good
until a Labatt's Flying Fist sailed in from the crowd knocking the ball free. The
Darkelves couln't capitalize and the ball eventually worked it's way back into Chaos hands.
After a minor dispute in the EZ over whether or not Is it A TD?. Replay officials ruled
for the Tuskers and they closed the gap with 3 turns to go.

Out of re-rolls, AD was unable to advance the ball, and decided to play prevent offense.
Which nearly did them in as the Beastmen completed just about all of the unlikely events
needed to force the tie. The Tusker season ended when the ball bounced poorly leaving
them too far from the EZ to score.

  • Commentary from da Coach: This game ended up closer than it had a right to be. Early on I could do no wrong and James could do no right, yet the score was only 2-0 at the half. Unfortunately, like the Cornhuskers of the Rose Bowl, being down a couple of TDs is near insurmountable for Chaos. I'll give the Game Ball to the freebooted Thrower, Rudy, who also was the game MVP, gaining an unlikely two skills and was one of two DE casualties!
