The Woodelves took the kick on a Very Sunny October afternoon. They opened the
drive with some very impressive blocking that gave them an early numbers advantage.
Unfortunately they were unable to capitialize and the Lizards made a causualty comback and
neither team could gain the upper hand. The ball was on the turf early and was surrounded
with enough TZs to choke a horse. Neither team could shake it loose and the first half
ended with in a 0-0 tie with only 5 guys left on either side.
As The Lizards had a couple of spare skinks they were able to carry a narrow numbers
advantage into the second half. The ball scattered OB and was given to a Xtiki-xtiki on a
touch back. The Woodelf Coach opted to use his Wizard preemptively, a move not entirely
unforeseen by the Slann coach, Xtiki-xtiki was just out of Lightning Bolt range, therefore the
Woodie Wizard was forced to use the less reliable Fireball. Not to worry it was Successful
and took down a bonus Saurus too. The remaining elves poured into the gap and recovered
the ball momentarily. The truly Inspiring Krox Uppsiddahed knocked the ball loose and it
looked like we were set for a replay of th first half, only this time it would be on the other side
of the pitch. After a couple of turns of back and forth, Upssiddahed had a rare opportunity of
a 1die block on the treeman. Treeman goes down! Ball was open, Ps'yx got the ball and
handed it to another waiting Skink who stretched it down field. The remaining Skinks
flooded the backfield to screen. The Woodies had one wardancer who had a slim chance to
catch him. Xtiki-xtiki made the play of the game by throwing a crucial Diving Tackle that
ended the threat. Lizards score on the next turn.
The Elfs just didn't have enough players to cover the ball and score, tho they tried heroically.
Roster Moves:
Hired Skink #14
Injury Report:
3 Badly Hurts (whew!)
Commentary from da Coach: I was worried about this game for good reason. I lost
three players right off the bat 2 Sauruses and the Star Krox, so much for a 9AV! Fortunately
we were giving as good as we got. Both sides were down numerous men. The ball spent
most of the day on the ground. The key to the game was that Uppsiddahed was an
Inspiration thereby learning Tackle which he used to great effect during the game.
My dice were pretty good and Shawn's had a bunch of ones stored in them, so I was able to
prevail. It was a good game tho, could have gone either way. I did get away with a seasons
worth of go-for-its. That'll never happen again!
